The time for urgency is now. Climate urgency. The international community must, on the occasion of the Paris Conference on Climate Change, rise to the occasion of History and make commitments commensurate with the challenges ahead. We must jointly curb the deleterious effects of global warming.

Sovereign Carbon

"Among the economic priorities are explicitly the 'reconstruction of crisis-affected regions and the fight against climate change', alongside the strengthening of energy supply and infrastructure development."

H.E. Louis Paul Motaze,
Minister of Finance of Cameroon

Because global warming is a reality

The planet is warming by 0.2°c per decade due to human activity.

Because man is responsible

Human activities, and in particular the consumption of fossil fuels (oil, gas, coal), artificially increase the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, thereby accentuating global warming.

Because Cameroon is one of the countries most exposed to global warming

Cameroon is one of the Central African countries which, despite contributing relatively little to global greenhouse gas emissions, are particularly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. However, Cameroon is facing several challenges due to climate change, such as: rising sea levels, changes in rainfall, deforestation and loss of biodiversity, impacts on livelihoods.

Because the international community is committed to combating climate change, and most countries are taking steps to limit or reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.

The Paris Agreement, adopted by 196 countries, is a historic commitment by the international community to limit global warming to 1.5° above pre-industrial levels. Most countries have defined long-term development strategies with low greenhouse gas emissions.

Because Cameroon has the right and the duty to take measures to limit greenhouse gas emissions on its territory.

The Sovereign Carbon Initiative aims to promote and develop programs with social, energy and environmental impacts, for the benefit of the country's sustainable economic development, and the protection of the most vulnerable populations exposed to the consequences of global warming.
